About Us

Peterborough Environment City Trust (PECT) is an independent and innovative environmental charity helping to protect and enhance the environment throughout Peterborough and beyond.

PECT was set up after Peterborough's designation in 1992 as one of four UK Environment Cities along with Leeds, Leicester and Middlesbrough. With more than 23 years’ experience working within the city, PECT delivers ground-breaking and innovative projects of local, regional and national significance, enabling change for a sustainable future.

Here in the UK we’re currently using resources at such a rate that we need three planets to support us. Things need to change in order to enjoy a better quality of life for ourselves, our families and future generations.

PECT works with a multitude of communities, schools, businesses and voluntary organisations to deliver projects that make a real difference. Positive change for achieving a greener, happier, healthier city is at the heart of what we do, and our staff and volunteers are passionate advocates for 'walking the walk'.

Our Vision is for Sustainable Places.

What do we mean by this?

The natural environment is healthy
Communities are involved in their area
Health and well-being is improved for all
Resource use is responsible and doesn't compromise the needs of others, now and into the future.
Our Mission is to protect and enhance the environment throughout Peterborough and beyond.

Our Values describe the way in which we work in order to deliver our mission.

Proactive - Forward thinking and enthusiastic in seeking solutions
Professional - Meeting and exceeding our organisational professional standards
Empowering - Supporting others with information and resources to help them take responsibility
Enterprising - Innovative and opportunistic in our approach

The Climate Coalition

PECT is a member of The Climate Coalition, the UK's largest group of people dedicated to action on climate change and limiting its impact on the world’s poorest communities.

The Climate Coalition has come together to show our love for all the things we could lose to the impacts of climate change.

We are a Living Wage Employer

The Living Wage is an example of communities, businesses, campaigners and faith groups coming together to find practical ways to address working poverty and strengthen families.

The UK-wide campaign recognises and celebrates the responsible leadership shown by Living Wage Employers and supports employers to incorporate the Living Wage into organisational structures long term.

Health & Safety Quality Mark

PECT demonstrates commitment to Health & Safety in the workplace.

Citation is the UK’s leading specialist in Health & Safety and well-known to all major industry bodies, due to its high standards and high quality approach to Health & Safety in the workplace.

PECT has achieved iiE Green Accreditation

PECT has achieved Green Level Investors in the Environment (iiE) accreditation. iiE is a national environmental accreditation scheme.

The iiE scheme is unique because businesses must achieve a minimum 2% improvement in resource efficiency over an agreed baseline figure to secure green accreditation. Other essential criteria include having a recycling system in place, adopting a travel plan, calculating carbon footprint and setting targets for carbon reduction.
