The Peterborough Green Festival
is back! Now in its 23rd year - making it one of the longest running environmental festivals in the UK - the Green Festival Launch Day will be held on Saturday 23 May 2015 in the city centre. Fringe events will then take place across the city and surrounding areas, between 23 and 31 May.
Bringing together attractions, community groups, charities and businesses, the Green Festival celebrates everything ‘green’ in Peterborough with a wide variety of events and activities running throughout the day, offering plenty of fun for the whole family. The Launch Day will be held in Cathedral Square, St John’s Square and Cowgate.
The festival will include exciting environmental-themed art works by local artists who have been specially commissioned to highlight sustainability issues in innovative and engaging ways.
In addition to this there will be a wide range of activities to get involved in on the Launch Day including heritage craft, live music, dance performances, the Children’s Playbus, interactive or participatory stalls showcasing information on wildlife, local food and craft work, plus much more!
“We’re very excited about this year’s Festival and the range of activities available for both children and adults,” explains Green Festival Project Officer April Sotomayor. “It will be a fun and exciting week, bringing together so many of the organisations that are making Peterborough the UK’s Environmental Capital.”
Fringe events will then take place across the city and surrounding areas until Sunday 31 May. These will include a cycle powered cinema event, an eco-Swish clothing swap evening, farm walks, rambles and cycle rides, with more events still to be announced.
This year’s festival, sponsored by Travelchoice
and with funding from the Arts Council
, will be based on the theme of sustainable transport. The Green Festival is run by Peterborough Environment City Trust and is a free event for the benefit of all residents and visitors to the city.
