Take part in the Zero Waste Week Challenge

The not-for profit environmental accreditation scheme Investors in the Environment (iiE) is calling for businesses, households and individuals to take part in the annual Zero Waste Week challenge! Can you manage a week without putting anything in the bin?

Zero Waste Week takes place on Monday 16 – Sunday 22 February 2015. Despite its name, you don’t have to go completely Zero Waste; the idea is simply to reduce the amount of waste being sent to landfill. It’s about helping the environment while saving you money, plus it’s free to take part in!

Kim Coley, Senior Green Business Coordinator at iiE said, “Zero Waste Week is a great initiative for encouraging everyone to look at their day-to-day actions. By making small steps towards waste reduction you will become more aware of environmental issues, plus you get to take part in a challenge that’s fantastic fun!”

iiE is asking participants to share photographs of their green pledges on social media @iiEUK with the hashtag #ZeroWasteWeek. Whether it’s taping office bins shut for a week, getting a compost bin, cutting back on junk mail, cycling into work, not using office printers for one day, or eating home-cooked food to reduce packaging, iiE wants to hear your green pledges!

For more information about taking part in the week, visit www.iie.uk.com. If you’re a business wanting to take part in the week and would like a free step-by-step guide to planning a successful Zero Waste Week as well as case studies and successes from other businesses, call Kim Coley on 01733 866436 or email kim.coley@iie.uk.com. Zero Waste Week is sponsored by Viridor and Walters.

Investors in the Environment was launched by Peterborough Environment City Trust (PECT) in 2010. iiE is designed to help businesses save money and reduce their impact on the environment, providing all the help, support, promotion and networking you need to ensure you get recognition for your green efforts.
