Event Overview
Are you interested in nature and helping Northborough Junior school to improve their wildlife area?
Why not join our volunteer sessions to help your local community to increase your conservation experience and learn new skills. Your support will help us to improve a wildlife haven and the outdoor play areas.
Each of the two sessions will be relaxed and informal and you can attend both sessions if you choose to.
Outdoor volunteer sessions can help boost mental wellbeing, and create an opportunity to meet like-minded wildlife enthusiasts. Please wear outdoor suitable clothing and bring a packed lunch if you attend both sessions.During the session, you will prune young trees and tidy up any overgrown areas. Pruning early on helps to keep the trees growing healthily and increases the quantity of flowers/fruits on growing trees. It also ensures the removal of diseased/dying tissue and closed-off, dense branches. This benefits wildlife, as it includes shelter/food resources for our native pollinator and bird species.
The trees planted are part of the Forests For Peterborough project, which aims to plant 230,000 trees throughout the wider Peterborough area – one for every citizen – by 2030. With the support of our volunteers, the newly planted trees for the Forest for Peterborough have already reduced 1,300 tonnes of carbon from the atmosphere. Tree maintenance is very important for the health and longevity of our trees. Healthy trees are able to grow faster and will absorb higher levels of carbon. All helping to create a healthier planet!
There are two sessions available: 9.30 – 12.30 and 1.00 – 4.00.
Please specify which session you are interested in when booking.
