Event Overview
Tuesday 27th August 2019 1pm – 1.45pm
Our summer season of “Tuesdays at Two” concerts ends with a duo concert by viola player Leon King, returning after a very successful solo concert with us last summer, and pianist Emily Smith, who also appeared last summer, when she played the cello with The Stringlers.
They will be playing three sonatas, all by composers whose lives were drastically affected by the rise of the Nazis: two had to flee to America to escape them, and one, László Weiner, was murdered by them in 1944:
Paul Hindemith, Sonata Op 25 no. 4 (1922)
László Weiner, Viola Sonata (1942)
Darius Milhaud, Viola Sonata no. 2 (1944)
As ever St John’s will be open for an hour before the concert begins, with volunteers from the pop-up café team offering lots of home made sweet and savoury treats as well as hot and cold drinks.
The concert will begin promptly at 1pm.
Admission is free, but those who are able to afford it are asked to make a donation.
The suggested amount is £5.
