Event Overview
Learn more about the Roots of Rockingham project, aiming to restore a network of woodland sites across Rockingham Forest, including the reintroduction of the Chequered Skipper butterfly.
Back from the Brink is a hugely exciting partnership project that brings together a range of conservation organisations to focus on protecting key threatened wild flowers, butterflies, birds and other species, all of which are under real threat of extinction in the British Isles.
A constituent project is ‘Roots of Rockingham’, which aims to restore and manage a network of woodland sites across Northamptonshire’s Rockingham Forest. One special species which it is hoped will benefit is the Chequered Skipper butterfly, which became extinct in England in 1976. As part of ‘Roots of Rockingham’ a reintroduction is now underway.
March’s speaker, Butterfly Conservation’s Susannah O’Riordan, will explain more.
