Event Overview
Join our resident meadow expert and Living Landscapes Manager, Matt Johnson for a wander around Ditchford Meadow. Usually inaccessible to the public, Ditchford Meadow is teeming with rare and wonderful wildflower species.
This walk will provide an introduction to the plants, wildlife and wider ecology of our meadows. By the end of the session it is anticipated that participants will have an understanding of the ecology of meadows including hydrology, botanical communities and wildlife they support as well as management and restoration techniques associated with meadows. Participants will also be able to identify some of the more common plant species of meadows and undertake basic botanical monitoring of meadows.
Celebrating our amazing meadows at Nene Wetlands as part of the Farming for the Future project and National Meadows Day.
This event is being run by the Farming for the Future project which is one of sixteen National Heritage Lottery funded projects forming the Nenescape Landscape Partnership, working within the Nene Valley.
We are working with farmers and landowners in this catchment to help restore and create meadow and wetland habitats and prevent watercourse pollution through the provision of capital items on farmland.
More than 97% of our meadows have been lost nationally and so a primary aim of our work is to celebrate, protect and conserve the few remaining meadows that we have, and enable a better understanding of these crucial habitats to local communities.
